"How To Get Rich" Authors Are Stealing Your Money!

by TheMillionPoundMan.com on March 17, 2008

“They’re only doing it to make money!”

“They’re conning you.”

“With how to get rich books the only person making the money is the author – it’s a con.”

I hear these and similar comments continuously from those who struggle to believe that anyone is able to become rich. My response to all these comments: “Rubbish!”

Donald Trump, author of ‘How to Get Rich’, ‘The Art of the Deal’ and many other books on wealth creation and strategy made his money in property. Surely the skeptics don’t think that this self-made billionaire expects to make a fortune through writing books on how he made his fortune. If anything there are seeds of great knowledge to be mined from his volumes. This is knowledge you can apply to yourself on your wealth creation journey.

Felix Dennis, author of ‘How to Get Rich’ made his money in publishing (and NOT publishing his book, his book is published by Ebury Press, specialists in BOOK publishing, whilst Dennis’ business specializes in magazine publishing). Dennis gives you the low down on wealth creation – both the negative and positive sides of the coin.

Andrew Carnegie, who made is fortune in the steel industry during the late 1800s, wrote “The Gospel of Wealth” (actually more of a wealth distribution guide than a wealth accumulation guide – it was this short work that inspired Warren Buffet and Bill Gates [two of the world's richest men] to contribute billions to the improvement of the lives of others). Carnegie also inspired Napoleon Hill to research the principles of success and wealth creation. Hill eventually wrote and published “The Law of Success”, “Think and Grow Rich” and many others after being allowed to extensively interview some of the wealthiest and most powerful individuals in the United States during the first half of the 1900s.

Writing a Book Isn’t the Secret to Wealth

A brief look at the publishing industry reveals that an author seldom makes decent money out of writing and publishing a book. For every financially successful author, there are hundreds, perhaps thousands who only manage to scrape by.

J.K. Rowling is one such author. She struggled along until her book was finally published. The Harry Potter franchise revolutionized her finances through licensing her works. Do note that she made her fortune out of creating stories for entertainment as opposed to creating books on ‘how to get rich’.

I suspect that very few ’how to get rich’ authors have become rich through publishing books on ‘how to get rich’. If anything, I’d rather read one of these books only if its written by someone who is already rich… and he got rich of his own accord. It’s from an author like that that I can learn a great deal.

Mentorship

He’s walked the walk and is now instructing me on walking that exact same walk. Even better than instruction via a book is speaking to him one on one… or better yet having him guide me as I walk.

Here, I’m talking about coaching or mentorship.

I’ve been very fortunate to have had individuals who have, of their own accord, changed their fortunes in life. These include family friends and friends I’ve met along the way as well as casual acquaintances.

I urge you to seek out individuals who have made their fortunes themselves, speak to them and ask for their advice. Twice I’ve been steered away from financial ruin thanks to the guidance of these individuals. And many, many times these individuals have freely given of their time, experience and advice to enhance my entrepreneurial abilities.

Even if you can’t find someone to personally give you guidance on wealth creation, you have some of the finest minds and moneymakers available to you through books. Their advice awaits your discovery of them. Now, even if you read every single book ever written on the subject of getting rich, this does not guarantee that you will get rich.

Why?

Simply reading these books will not do it for you. Getting out in the real world and taking action, applying the lessons learnt by those authors will get you closer to your fiscal goal.

Get off your rear and go make some money!
