People who say that money is evil or bad or that they don’t need money, or even those who decry capitalism are living in a fantasy land the equivalent to believing that Santa Clause and the Tooth Fairy are real.

The incredible things that can be done with this thing we call money are limited by the bounds of your own imagination. And we’re learning more and more that there are no bounds to your imagination.

There are some who criticise Bill Gates for the so-called “monopoly” he has in the computing industry and for is immense wealth.

And yet this is the guy who has touched more lives than 99.9% of the population of this world and had a profound impact on the globe.

The vast majority of computer users are using technology developed by this guy’s company. He has amassed a phenomenal wealth that he is now gifting back to the human race through the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation thereby impacting the lives of many more now and in future generations.

Money is a value system. Plain and simple. It is a measurement of the financial value of service you give and receive from others as well as a representation of the value of any specific item for sale.

The thing is that we decide the value of any specific items or services.

I know of a magician who charges £100 per performance. Another who charges £250 for a single hours worth of magic. And yet others who charge £1,000 to £3,500 for a day’s worth of magic.

I’ve been paid as much as £1,400 for 10 mintues worth of performance time in the past.

The thing is that each individual sets their own value on their time and the right kind of clients end up paying the right kind of prices depending on factures such as perceived value of the magician’s expertiese, budget and ‘replacability’.

The guys who charge at the lower end of the scale are easily replaceable as there are many magicians fighting over the scraps that are these kind of gigs. On the higher end of the scale there are fewer magicians and as such these guys are in high demand by those who need these guys.

Money is good. Or bad. But it’s all about YOUR perception.

If you see money as doing bad – that’s what you’ll be focusing on and that’s what you’ll see in the world.

Money is good. See all the good that money has done, is doing and can do.

A friend and I were disussing the importance of money – the role that it plays in our society.

This is a guy who lives in a squat. Him and several other squatters break into and take over abandoned buildings and convert them into free accommodation for themselves for as long as it takes the authorities or owners to kick them out. Not an ideal or stressfree lifestyle.

This guy seems to always be suffering from a lack of finances.

I asked him to point to absolutely anything on the street and I’d demonstrate how money was and is a vital part of that particular item in our society.

He chose the most valueless item he could – a discarded cigarette butt on the pavement.

We stood for a good 15 minutes as I demonstrated how money had been a part of the process in the life of the cigarette butt and more importantly a part of the process of EVERYONE’S lives who had at been at every stage of that cigarette butts existance and pre-existance. Money was even impacting the lives of those who’d be responsible for the sweeping up and discarding of that self same cigarette butt.

These people also have families they feed and support as a result of that butt.

Everywhere you look in modern society you will find money.

Even in tribal societies untouched by money we’ll find some system of value exchange.

Man has always had an intrinsic need to measure and quantify things. And this includes the value he receives and gives. Money makes that easier.

Now go make some money! ie. Go provide value for humanity!

Regards,

John Jacob Astor, a penniless German immigrant, set foot on US soil in March 1784.

By 1800 he amassed almost a quarter of a million dollars. Soon after he became the first self-made millionaire in the United States.

At the time of his death on March 29, 1848, John Jacob Astor was worth $20 million (today the equivalent of $115 billion according to Forbes, making Astor the fourth wealthiest person in American history).

According to speaker Brian Tracy, in the year 1900 there were approximately 5000 millionaires in the USA. The interesting thing is that the vast majority of them were self made millionaires.

By the year 2000 there were 7 million millionaires in the world, 5 million of whom were residing in the USA. Again, the majority of these millionaires were all self made.

Over the 100 years between 1800 and 1900 in the USA we see a remarkable increase from no millionaires to 5000 millionaires. For the sake of our mathematics, lets assume we had one American millionaire in the year 1800 (untrue, though it was soon there after when Astor cracked the millionaire mark). Thus we can say the number of millionaires increased by 5000 times.

Over the following 100 years between 1900 and 2000 the number of millionaires in the USA increases by 1000 times. And this was despite an American economy that went through many rocky patches over those 100 years.

From no millionaires in 1800 to 5 million millionaires in 2000.

It took Astor 48 years to increase his net worth from a quarter million dollars to $20 million. Today however, living in the age of the internet, we have people like Larry Page and Sergey Brin who over a few short years amass a fortune of several billion dollars.

The interenet is ripe with examples of people creating fortunes over a short space of time using this billion dollar technology that we all have access to at a minimal investment from our side.

Perhaps you will awaken to the awesome power of today’s wealth creation medium – the internet- and find your own way to create an amazing fortune for yourself online.

Imagine you had the privilege of chatting with Bill Gates about the wealth strategies that unleashed his phenomenal fortunes. You decide that since he has amassed a great fortune his strategy obviously works… which it does.

You dash off to begin putting into practice his advice. After perhaps a year or so of diligent work you fail to see any results for yourself. You know the strategy works thus you persist.

Two, three, four and more years pass. Still no huge rewards.

Fed up and convinced that the ‘Bill Gates Strategy’ doesn’t work you head off in search of a new teacher of wealth creation principles.

You bump into Warren Buffet – at one point the second wealthiest man on earth. After a conversation with Buffet, he agrees to reveal his wealth accumulation strategies.

Enthusiastic, you immediately put his strategies to work. And again, no major return on your effort.

Same thing happens when you meet Larry Page – one of the co-founders of Google and self made multi-billionaire. You bump into Oprah Winfrey, Donald Trump and Richard Branson.

Each individual mentioned is phenomenally wealthy and yet their strategy or path to riches fails to work for you.

WHY?

Although the psychology of wealth creation is very similar; mindsets can be modelled and adopted for your benefit, there are millions of ways or routes to becoming what ever level determines “wealthy” for you.

In other words, you don’t need to follow the footsteps of any of the aforementioned billionaires to create your own wealth.

You would benefit from identifying your strengths and areas of interest. Be aware also of where you lose interest or just can’t be bothered.

“Know Thyself” – Become acutely aware of your personality traits.

From there begin figuring out which billionaire closest fits your personality type. Once you are aware who is most similar to you then head off and model their strategy, adapting their life and success story to your own personal path to prosperity.

To your ultimate financial success!

“They’re only doing it to make money!”

“They’re conning you.”

“With how to get rich books the only person making the money is the author – it’s a con.”

I hear these and similar comments continuously from those who struggle to believe that anyone is able to become rich. My response to all these comments: “Rubbish!”

Donald Trump, author of ‘How to Get Rich’, ‘The Art of the Deal’ and many other books on wealth creation and strategy made his money in property. Surely the skeptics don’t think that this self-made billionaire expects to make a fortune through writing books on how he made his fortune. If anything there are seeds of great knowledge to be mined from his volumes. This is knowledge you can apply to yourself on your wealth creation journey.

Felix Dennis, author of ‘How to Get Rich’ made his money in publishing (and NOT publishing his book, his book is published by Ebury Press, specialists in BOOK publishing, whilst Dennis’ business specializes in magazine publishing). Dennis gives you the low down on wealth creation – both the negative and positive sides of the coin.

Andrew Carnegie, who made is fortune in the steel industry during the late 1800s, wrote “The Gospel of Wealth” (actually more of a wealth distribution guide than a wealth accumulation guide – it was this short work that inspired Warren Buffet and Bill Gates [two of the world's richest men] to contribute billions to the improvement of the lives of others). Carnegie also inspired Napoleon Hill to research the principles of success and wealth creation. Hill eventually wrote and published “The Law of Success”, “Think and Grow Rich” and many others after being allowed to extensively interview some of the wealthiest and most powerful individuals in the United States during the first half of the 1900s.

Writing a Book Isn’t the Secret to Wealth

A brief look at the publishing industry reveals that an author seldom makes decent money out of writing and publishing a book. For every financially successful author, there are hundreds, perhaps thousands who only manage to scrape by.

—————

Sponsor

—————

J.K. Rowling is one such author. She struggled along until her book was finally published. The Harry Potter franchise revolutionized her finances through licensing her works. Do note that she made her fortune out of creating stories for entertainment as opposed to creating books on ‘how to get rich’.

I suspect that very few ’how to get rich’ authors have become rich through publishing books on ‘how to get rich’. If anything, I’d rather read one of these books only if its written by someone who is already rich… and he got rich of his own accord. It’s from an author like that that I can learn a great deal.

Mentorship

He’s walked the walk and is now instructing me on walking that exact same walk. Even better than instruction via a book is speaking to him one on one… or better yet having him guide me as I walk.

Here, I’m talking about coaching or mentorship.

I’ve been very fortunate to have had individuals who have, of their own accord, changed their fortunes in life. These include family friends and friends I’ve met along the way as well as casual acquaintances.

—————

Sponsor

—————

I urge you to seek out individuals who have made their fortunes themselves, speak to them and ask for their advice. Twice I’ve been steered away from financial ruin thanks to the guidance of these individuals. And many, many times these individuals have freely given of their time, experience and advice to enhance my entrepreneurial abilities.

Even if you can’t find someone to personally give you guidance on wealth creation, you have some of the finest minds and moneymakers available to you through books. Their advice awaits your discovery of them. Now, even if you read every single book ever written on the subject of getting rich, this does not guarantee that you will get rich.

Why?

Simply reading these books will not do it for you. Getting out in the real world and taking action, applying the lessons learnt by those authors will get you closer to your fiscal goal.

Get off your rear and go make some money!

Regards,

Wrong.

Money is not evil. It is neither ‘the source of evil’. If you’re looking to the scripture, the correct quote is “the love of money is the root of evil”.

Unfortunately this is one of the often misquoted phrases relating to money. Money is not there to be deified… money simply CAN’T be deified or idolized. Money exists as a representation of value. The seller of say a mobile phone values his product at say £50 ($100). The buyer agrees upon this value thus an exchange of money and goods takes place.

Money replaced humankind’s ancient systems of bartering.

You can rationalize that money is in fact a form of energy, much like water or heat. Water, for instance, can sustain life. It can improve the quality of life and it can also take life… similarly with heat and electricity too.

Neither water nor heat nor electricity is evil or good. Nor is the love of any of these forms of energy the root of evil. They simply exist. They are. We can use them to enhance our experience on earth as well as those around us or we can misuse them creating harm and possibly even death.

Take the same view on money. This form of energy or value exchange can be a positive force to enhance the quality of your life and others’. You should not be striving to get rich simply for the money. Money is not a means to an end. Money is a means with which you improve your life situation.

—————

Sponsor

—————

You’re not working at becoming a millionaire simply to be a millionaire. You’re working at becoming a millionaire because of the kind of person you will undoubtedly become along the way. There is a process you will be going through and this will mould you. You’re looking to be the kind of individual who will enrich the lives of those around you. You can not simply becoming a millionaire through being a self-serving individual.

You will need to expand beyond serving yourself. It is the service of others that will truly add to your spiritual and financial wealth.

Money is not evil. Rich people are not evil. You are certainly not evil. Yes, there are mean rich people. There are also truly great, benevolent rich people too. Just at there are mean poor people and truly great, benevolent poor people too. It is not the having of money that makes the person mean or good. Money does not come into the picture at all.

The individual is either mean or great as a result of their personality. They’d be mean or great with and without money. Money does not make the individual who he or she is. Work on yourself whilst focusing on delivering immense value to others. This is so important – be of value to others!

Remember too that it’s alright to be rich!

We live in an abundant universe… you are part of this abundance; choose to use the abundance to uplift your life and the lives of others.

Every great fortune has to start somewhere – yours is no exception.

Yes, it’s great if you have a wealthy relative who is able to assist you with their financial influence and experience. Not everyone has that luxury.

Not everyone has squirreled away their savings over time or made wise investment or career choices.

And still, it is possible for you… for anyone, to amass a great fortune.

How?

History always affords us the opportunity to learn from some of the masters of wealth building. One such master is Andrew Carnegie.

Scouring through his biographies reveals the factual information… a lot of which has been clouded by the various biographers’ biases for and against the man, depending on their interpretation of historical events and how they believe Carnegie impacted those events. Regardless, there is a lot you and I can learn from Carnegie.

Andrew Carnegie went from poverty to self-made millionaire, becoming the wealthiest man on earth during his lifetime. Eventually, he gave most of his money away. At the height of his fortune, translated into the value of money today, Carnegie was worth $298.3 billion (£149.15 billion).

Do remember that this was self-made, despite his humble beginnings.

So what ensured Carnegie became such a phenomenal success?

Carnegie knew exactly what he wanted. He had no idea how he would get to his final destination but he knew what he was working towards. He was determined, devoted to self-improvement and would not shy away from hard work. He was also a life long learner. Despite his family’s poverty, they had instilled in Carnegie a love of learning.

As for knowing exactly what he wanted…

Whilst working as a telegraph runner the young boy ensured he over delivered and excelled in the job he was performing. He went over and above his call of duty. It was due to an incident that occurred one Saturday night at the Ohio Telegraph Company’s office that resulted in Carnegie developing his vision for himself, his brother Thomas and his parents that resulted in his immense success later in life.

In his autobiography, published posthumously, Carnegie explains:

“The incident in my messenger life which at once lifted me to the seventh heaven, occurred one Saturday evening when Colonel (John) Glass was paying the boys their month’s wages. We stood in a row before the counter, and Mr. Glass paid each one in turn. I was at the head and reached out my hand for the first eleven and a quarter dollars as they were pushed out by Mr. Glass. To my surprise he pushed them past me and paid the next boy. I thought it was a mistake, for I had heretofore been paid first, but it followed in turn with each of the other boys. My heart began to sink within me. Disgrace seemed coming. What had I done or not done? I was about to be told that there was no more work for me. I was to disgrace the family. That was the keenest pang of all. When all had been paid and the boys were gone, Mr. Glass took me behind the counter and said that I was worth more than the other boys, and he had resolved to pay me thirteen and a half dollars a month.

“My head swam; I doubted whether I had heard him correctly. He counted out the money. I don’t know whether I thanked him; I don’t believe I did. I took it and made one bound for the door and scarcely stopped until I got home… I handed over to mother, who was the treasurer of the family, the eleven dollars and a quarter and said nothing about the remaining two dollars and a quarter in my pocket–worth more to me then than all the millions I have made since.

“Tom, a little boy of nine, and myself slept in the attic together, and after we were safely in bed I whispered the secret to my dear little brother. Even at his early age he knew what it meant, and we talked over the future. It was then, for the first time, I sketched to him how we would go into business together; that the firm of ‘Carnegie Brothers’ would be a great one, and that father and mother should yet ride in their carriage. At the time that seemed to us to embrace everything known as wealth and most of what was worth striving for.”

“On Sunday morning with father, mother, and Tom at breakfast, I produced the extra two dollars and a quarter. The surprise was great and it took some moments for them to grasp the situation, but it soon dawned upon them. Then father’s glance of loving pride and mother’s blazing eye soon wet with tears, told their feeling. It was their boy’s first triumph and proof positive that he was worthy of promotion. No subsequent success, or recognition of any kind, ever thrilled me as this did. I cannot even imagine one that could. Here was heaven upon earth. My whole world was moved to tears of joy.”

It was that incredible night, filled with enthusiasm and boundless confidence, when the young Andrew Carnegie developed his vision. Please note that his vision extended beyond one himself. It included his entire family.

Later in life Carnegie also strove to add value to and improve the lives of many others. In fact to this very day Carnegie’s works of philanthropy continue to have a profound impact on society.

This, right here is the seed of immense fortunes, vision.

Note Carnegie’s words once more:

“We would go into business together… the firm of ‘Carnegie Brothers’ would be a great one.”

Years later the brothers were in business together… their company was a great one. One of the most influential steel producers of the time.

Interesting story, but how does this apply to you and your desire to create a financial empire?

1. Develop a vision for yourself. One that extends beyond yourself. One in which you have a positive impact upon your family, community, country, generation, the world, etc.

Sports psychologist Dennis Waitley travels the world lecturing on the importance of having a clear mental image of yourself and your success as you wish to have it. Every great success has first come as a result of someone creating a vision of that success.

It is important that you have clarity. It’s only through having a clear target to aim for that you’ll be able to hit the target.

Philosopher Dr. John DeMartini mentions that you vision should extend beyond the success you wish to create. For instance, if you want success solely for yourself, you should develop a vision of success for your family. If you want success for your family, develop a vision for your community. If you want success for your community, develop a vision for your country… for your country, develop a vision for the world… a vision for the world, develop an astronomical vision.

2. Now, enthusiastically believe in this vision of yours, having faith that it will come about. Begin taking action each day towards the fulfillment of this vision… although you currently may have no idea how to bring this vision about. Take action anyway with your focus and attention on your vision!

These are the beginnings of your ‘investment’ in becoming rich. Invest wisely.
